Mimosa Donates to Mpilo Central Hospital

Driven by its essence of fostering mutually beneficial relationships with the community, Mimosa Mining Company has refurbished two wards at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo. The organisation has also revamped the Hosiptal’s electrical substation and street lights.

Mpilo Central Hospital is a quaternary referral centre serving the Southern half of Zimbabwe.

Like most health institutions in the country, the Hospital was struggling to meet the increasing patient needs, and sought assistance from the corporate sector.

Mimosa affirmatively responded to Mpilo Hospital’s request for assistance by extensively renovating wards B1 and C5 and the respective nurses’ duty rooms, which were in a general state of disrepair. The organisation also supplied linen and installed hot water systems in the wards.

Moreover, Mimosa revamped an electrical substation at the Hospital and by so doing saved countless lives. The Mine also resuscitated the Hospital’s street lights, ensuring the safety of patients and staff.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the projects, Mimosa Mining Company Executive Chairman Mr. Winston Chitando pledged that the organisation would continue to work with Government and play its part in ensuring that the quality of lives of communities is improved.

“It is our sincere belief that today's handover goes some way towards underlining that mining houses and the state can collaborate in unlocking key national programmes. Today should also be testimony that our two parties working in unison can ensure that our socio economic agenda as espoused in ZIMASSET, is fully realized,” he added.

Mimosa has a profound history of partnership with Government and other stakeholders in transforming the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans in the areas of health, education, water reticulation, environmental preservation and infrastructural development.

Envisioning a healthy nation, Mimosa ‘s interventions in health include the provision of equipment, refurbishment of institutions as well as an on-going wellness programme which benefits Mimosa employees, their families and the entire nation.

Other notable health institutions which have benefited from Mimosa’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme include Zvishavane District Hospital, Harare Hospital School of Nursing and Chitungwiza General Hospital.
