Mimosa Mine is a Platinum Group Metal (PGM) and base metal mining operation located in the Wedza sub-chamber of the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe. The Wedza sub-chamber is the southernmost of four sub-chambers within the Great Dyke, and it hosts the economically significant Main Sulphide Zone (MSZ), from which PGMs and base metals are explored and mined. The Mimosa operation comprises four mineral deposits: North Hill, South Hill, Mtshingwe Block, and Far South Hill. Current operations are located at South Hill.
A mechanised bord-and-pillar mining method is used to extract ore, with an average stoping height of 2.1 meters and an annual production rate of approximately 2.9 million tonnes. The mine operates on a two-shift system. The mining cycle involves mechanised support drilling and installation, mechanised face drilling, charging and blasting, followed by mechanised lashing and ore conveyance to the strategic surface stockpile.
Mimosa Mine’s concentrator also processes 2.9million tons of ore per year. The key operations within the concentrator are crushing and screening, milling, flotation, thickening, and filtration. The concentrator is configured into a two-stage milling and floatation circuit to achieve maximum efficiencies. The flotation plant yields a final concentrate with approximately 238koz of PGMs per year. The final concentrate is thickened and dewatered via pressure filters before being transported to the third parties for further processing. The residual material is pumped for deposition onto a 145-hectare slimes dam.
Mimosa adheres to ISO 45001 (occupational safety), ISO 14001 (environment safety), and ISO 50001 (energy management) standards, ensuring systematic risk control, environmental protection and energy efficiency. These frameworks drive responsible operations aligned with global sustainability goals, prioritizing worker safety, ecological stewardship, and sustainable development in Zimbabwe’s mining sector.
