Mimosa Achieves Zero Harm
In 2008, Mimosa launched the concept of Zero Harm. This goal entailed the achievement of 365 days without recording a Lost Time Injury (LTI) in all operations. Several initiatives were launched to drive this goal. Chief amongst these was the SHE Strategic sessions which were held annually. The major components of the SHE Strategy were Leadership Development, Business Management System (based on ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards), Culture improvement, Management of Psychosocial issues, use of Technology and Environment Stewardship. In 2018, the company adopted ZERO Harm as a value. Consequently, the Corporate strategy was improved to incorporate several initiatives to achieve Zero Harm. This was incorporated into the Mimosa Way, the company’s mission and vision statement. Following the above intervention, a series of excellent runs were experienced by the company. These included runs of 6 to 8 months of zero LTIs. The best of these runs was in 2017 when 11 months and 14 days was experienced without an LTI. Following the disappointment of failing to achieve the ultimate goal at the last hurdle, mixed performances were experienced thereafter. After the coming together of all stakeholders and reviewing of all our systems, a good safety run in the financial year 2020/2021 was experienced resulting in the attainment of the coveted 365 Lost Time Injury (L.T.I.) Free Days on the 2nd of April 2021. This milestone is a product of shared team values, attitudes, competencies.
Congratulations to the entire Mimosa team for such a commendable achievement.
