Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
In a global effort to raise awareness on breast cancer, October has been designated as the Pink Month. This is the month where efforts to educate people about cancer, screening, signs and symptoms and early detection of the disease are scaled up. Annually, during this month, Mimosa initiates campaigns to shed light on the prevalent forms of cancer, such as breast and cervical cancer which impact individuals globally. Aligned with Mimosa's cultural emphasis on people as its foundation, the health of our employees is a priority. Thus, awareness campaigns are conducted to promote employee well-being, fostering better productivity, and upholding the zero-harm initiative.
These efforts aim to enlighten employees about risk factors, early detection methods, and proactive health approaches. By participating in these campaigns, Mimosa empowers its employees to take charge of their health, undergo timely screenings, and make informed decisions about their well-being.
The campaign kicked off with a walkathon led by General Manager Mr. Stephen Ndiyamba. Employees participated in various categories—2.5km, 5km, and 7.5km—to Mtshingwe Primary School and back. Weekly activities included ball games, cancer screening sessions, informative talks where breast cancer survivors shared their stories, and lively Zumba dance sessions. These activities added a fun and energetic element to the campaign. Throughout the campaign, employees wore pink T-shirts and ribbons, serving as potent reminders of the importance of regular screenings, self-examinations, and early intervention.
Additionally, the prostate cancer awareness campaign played a vital role in educating men about prevention, early detection, and symptoms of cancer in the month of November. The organization's goal is to empower men with knowledge and encourage them to prioritize their prostate health. Men, during the campaign, wore blue T-shirts and ribbons as symbols of solidarity and determination in the fight against prostate cancer. Educational sessions covered lifestyle choices for maintaining a healthy prostate, such as adopting a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption. Men were also enlightened about common symptoms, including blood in urine and persistent pain in the pelvic area.
