MTSHINGWE NURSERY

A commercial state of the Art Nursery was established at Mtshingwe; mainly for vegetable seedlings and a tree nursery to service the community and farmers in the province and country. This initiative takes its cue from the Let’s Go Zero philosophy, inspired by a realization of communities who were on the verge of suffering from deforestation caused by reliance on firewood as a source of energy. Mimosa’s goal is that of integrating its people and safety strategies around living, working, and playing safe. In view of the above, Mimosa partnered with Friends of the Environment (FOTE) in the implementation.

This nursery was subsequently enhanced in 2020, to diversify the existing activities to include community orchards, horticultural produce, herbs, and stock feed grasses to enhance the livestock project. The main aim is to create mitigating safety nets for the communities facing the results of climatic changes. The Nursery also serves as a training hub for the local community members who wish to enhance their farming skills. We have created a culture of planting trees in the district through partnership with our local chiefs.
