Mimosa cyclists take on Tour de Great Dyke Cycling Challenge
Aligned with Mimosa's commitment to employee wellness, five cyclists from the organization actively participated from the start line in the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke, which took place from November 2nd to November 4th, 2023. The event saw a total of 45 cyclists starting off at Zimplats' Selous Metallurgical Complex. The send-off ceremony was presided over by the Mashonaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Honorable Marian Chombo.
Embarking on an exhilarating journey, the cyclists pedaled through Chegutu, Kadoma, and Kwekwe during the Zimplats lap, where they rested for the night. The Unki lap led them from Kwekwe through Gweru and Shurugwi to Unki mine, with students from various schools and enthusiastic onlookers cheering them on.
During the final Mimosa lap from Unki to Zvishavane, additional cyclists joined from Mimosa, increasing the total to 30 and the overall count to 116, creating a memorable spectacle of riders converging towards the destination. Upon arrival in Zvishavane, the cyclists engaged in a Zumba session and stretching exercises before the medal ceremony.
The Mimosa cycling team's participation underscores the Mine's dedication to employee wellness and support for charitable causes. A portion of the tour proceeds is directed toward the Gifted Children Foundation, which assists talented yet underprivileged children in the Great Dyke. Notably, the Mimosa cycling team has been actively involved in the tour since its inception in 2016.
